METAL Balkan RAT-TAIL Stocked .62 MIQUELET Flintlock Greece Bosnia Albania
Circa 1750-1800 ENGRAVED All Metal Flintlock Pistol
Here we present an antique Balkan All-Metal Miquelet Pistol, made circa 1750 to the early 1800s in Southeastern Europe. The miquelet was an early and sturdy form of flintlock popular throughout Europe and the Ottoman Empire from the seventeenth into the late-19th Century. These were typically all-metal, made from brass, bronze or iron, and feature a peculiar aesthetic with typically a pointed pommel like the one you see here. The pommel was a weapon in itself.
Similar pistols have been dated to this same time frame in Albania and the surrounding area then under Ottoman rule.
The overall condition is very good. The action functions well. The bore is in good shape. The top of the barrel contains remnants of gold inlay designs and unusual proof markings. 90% of the metal frame is cast with traditional floral imagery. The top of the grip showcases a spine like pattern adjacent to protruding mounds that mimic scales. The grip is surprisingly comfortable. Here is a piece of history that will surely be a showstopper in the collection!
