Period Copy of Henry Deringer’s Famous Pistol

Here we present an antique Liege Proofed Period Copy of Henry Deringer’s Percussion Pocket Pistol, made circa the 1850s-60s. Henry Deringer was a talented and successful gunsmith from Pennsylvania. He started his own business in his early twenties, around 1809, showing his passion and skill at a young age. It wasn’t until the 1850s that his distinctive “Deringer” percussion pistol truly gained fame and became widely popular.

Once its popularity surged, many other shops began copying the design, producing their own versions. Some of these imitators even stamped Deringer’s name on their guns, although the quality didn’t always match his high standards. Concerned about protecting his reputation, Deringer was proactive—he took legal action against those making unauthorized copies and warned customers to be cautious of counterfeit guns bearing his name.

The overall condition is good.  Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age with serviceable rifling. Minor dents, dings and cracks are present in the wood, and the grip has worn checkering. Lightly engraved lock, hammer, and trigger guard. Liege proofed barrel. The original brown patina is smooth and even.
