Lettered COLT BISLEY SINGLE ACTION ARMY .32-20 WCF Revolver C&R
SHIPPED TO ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI IN 1908
Here we present a C&R Colt Bisley Model Single Action Army Revolver in .32-20 Winchester, manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut in 1908. The included factory letter states that it was a part of a two guns shipment sent to Norvell Shapleigh Hardware in St. Louis, Missouri December 12, 1908.
In 1869, Colt’s began development of a suitable cartridge revolver in earnest, first coming out with a number of conversions for their percussion lines, until 1872 when they debuted what was to become the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army in the 1872 U.S. Trials. Needless to say, it won, and became the Army’s revolver of choice. It also became the sidearm of choice for many others like cowboys, guards, lawmen, crooks, shopkeepers and all manner of civilians. The Bisley variant is characterized by a more curvaceous grip frame and lower hammer spur.
The overall condition is fine. Rebarreled from 7-1/5 to 5-1/2. Beautifully refinished. With case color frame and blue grip frame. The action is superb with all four clicks and the hammer holding all three positions with excellent cylinder indexing and lock up. Rampant Colt trademark grips are in good shape. Numbers match on the frame, the trigger guard and the grip frame. The number 1249b appears on the back of the cylinder, the interior of the trigger guard and the left side of the grip frame. A gorgeous gun!
