John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century.
This pistol is of martial size and could have been purchased by an officer, militiaman, or even a company or private individual. This was a time of exploration, colonies, and sea travel, so one can only imagine what this pistol may have witnessed or been party to.
