Late-18th Century Antique KETLAND & Co. MANSTOPPER .62 Big Bore FLINTLOCK Pistol
Turn of the Century Officers / Self Defense Flintlock
Here we present an antique Ketland & Co. marked Flintlock Pistol, made circa the late-1700s in London, England. Ketland & Co. operated in Birmingham, England, from the late 1700s and to the early 1800s to become one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. The lock plate is marked “KETLAND & Co.” and the barrel is marked “LONDON”. The barrel, trigger, lock, barrel tang, hammer, frizzen, pan and spring are all iron with brass trim.
The barrel is round with a beautiful full-length walnut stock, and the engravings on the brass are reserved yet handsome. If only this gun could tell us some stories.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Legible markings. Smooth, even brown barrel patina. The grip/stock/forend are all in good shape with light handling wear.
