Late-1700s LARGE French FLINTLOCK Pistol in .69 Caliber 11” Barrel Antique
Massive Single-Shot Sidearm
Here we present an antique French Flintlock Pistol, made circa the late-1700s. This pistol is massive with an 11-1/8 inch barrel and a manstopping .69 caliber bore. This handsome pistol would have been most at home in a saddle mounted pommel holster when not punching large holes. It is quite utilitarian with very little engraving or décor to indicate status. This is the kind of pistol that might have been tucked into the belt of a French trapper or the like in the New World, or it might have conceivably been a privately purchased military sidearm. Single most weapons of the period were single-shot muzzle-loaders, multiple weapons were loaded and carried for fast follow-up on hostiles.
The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. Nice smooth bore. There is a crack on the left stock of which remains stable. Here is an impressive example of a big-bore pistol!
