LARGE Antique CIVIL WAR Era CONFEDERATE Style D-Guard BOWIE Knife FRONTIER
Pattern Used by CONFEDERATE TROOPS
Here we present an antique Civil War Era D-Guard Bowie Knife. The bowie knife was popular from the 1840s to the end of the 19th Century. They were used by United States troops during the Mexican War and on the frontier during the disturbances in Kansas and Missouri in the 1850s. During the Civil War, they were popular with Confederate soldiers who did not have access to proper swords. These could be made just about anywhere by a smith, which were ubiquitous due to their great demand from making tools to shoeing horses. This is a great piece of American history!
The overall condition is good. The blade has a dark patina with discernible evidence of hand forging. This example has an untouched edge, having not been dulled. Solid handguard and grip, despite the grain split.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
