KENTUCKY PISTOL American Frontier Single Shot Sidearm .485 Caliber Antique
With Maple Stock, Octagonal Barrel, Pewter Cap
Here we present an antique Kentucky Pistol, made circa the 1850s. This type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and well into the 19th Centuries in the United States and North American Frontier. Most firearms manufacture at this time was not in great factories but decentralized with individual craftsman spread all over the map. The influence of the long rifle is obvious. The octagonal barrel is fairly stout and long. The stock is of maple with a pewter cap at the forefront. This is a Spartan weapon with no engraving aside from the trigger guard.
It was made to be functional weapon to supplement a rifle or musket. Having a ready backup to a single shot longarm was a necessity in a time when one might be waylaid or ambushed or come upon a dangerous animal.
The overall condition is very good. Original finish/patina. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinaed. The stock is solid, showing honest use.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
