IRISH FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS by RYON Antique Short-Range Shotgun Riot Gun
The Original Stagecoach and Naval Ship Boarding Gun!
Here we present an antique Flintlock Blunderbuss by Ryon, made circa the late-1600s in Ireland. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel flared at the muzzle and frequently throughout the entire bore, and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for naval boarding or defending by pirates and navies alike!
The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was capable of firing up to 20 buckshot in front of 120 grains of black powder, according to Spencer Tucker in “Almanac of American Military History, Volume 1”.
The condition is good. Weathered patina throughout. The action is strong. The bore is dim and smooth. The stock shows use and several spots of repair, remains solid. The brass side plate has an eagle head on one side and a wolfs head on the other.
