INTERWAR Blank Chamber DWM German LUGER P.08 7.65mm Semi-Auto PISTOL C&R
Forced to 7.65mm by the TREATY of VERSAILLES
Here we present a C&R German Blank Chamber DWM (Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken) Pistole Parabellum P.08 Luger Pistol, made circa the late 1930s in Berlin. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. In 1900 the United States ordered 1,000 Lugers in 7.65x21mm Parabellum, or .30 Luger, for infantry and cavalry trials. It received pushback from soldiers that said the caliber was too small and the firearm itself was unreliable. Which, in turn, led to DMW developing the 9mm caliber version of the Luger shortly thereafter.
The “Crown over N” proof mark is marked on this pistol. The Crown over N is a German pre-World War II proof mark used before April 1, 1940. The “N” indicates that the gun has been proofed with “nitro” or smokeless powder.
There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars. The top of the toggle is marked “DWM”, and “GERMANY” marked frame.
The overall condition is good. The example has been nicely refurbished. The action functions. Good bore with strong rifling. Fine grips with sharp checkering. Legible markings.
