Product Description

HEAVY BARRELED Antique GOULCHER Long Rifle from NEW YORK .40 Caliber c1840

With G. GOULCHER Lock and Barrel & Precision Peep Sight!

Here we present an antique Half Stock, Back Action, Heavy Barreled Percussion Long Rifle in .40 Caliber by George Goulcher, made circa the 1840s in New York, New York. The Goulchers (also spelled Golcher) were a multi-generational family in the gunmaking business, mostly making parts such as locks, but this is one of those hard to find examples of a whole rifle made by George.

This rifle would have been used to hunt medium to large sized game or dispatching the enemy from greater distances than most other muskets could fire accurately at that time. This rifle features a heavy octagonal barrel in .40 caliber, large enough to take big game or a man. There is a blade front sight, an open sight mounted to the barrel, and a rear peep that is mounted to the barrel tang and elevation adjustable. The peep sight also has the ability to fold down and out of the way of the open sight. The top of the barrel and side of the lock are marked “G. GOULCHER”.

The overall condition is Very Good. The action is strong and tight. The bore is in very good condition with nice rifling. There is a cast German silver buck on the left of the butt stock. All the markings are clear. A fantastic rifle and a fantastic piece of history!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 32-1/8 inches.

Caliber: .40

Overall condition as seen in photos.
