GORGEOUS Cast Carved Antique Spanish MIQUELET .50 Caliber Percussion PISTOL
Stately Sidearm from Early-19th Century Spain
Here we present an antique Ornate Spanish Miquelet Belt Pistol, made circa the early 1800s in Spain. This pistol was originally made in the flintlock format before being updated to the percussion firing system. It is a handsome pistol with its nicely figured, carved stock, chisel engraved and cast hardware. It is also a bit eerie in that there are crescent moon-shaped faces throughout that appear alternately serious or crazed. Panoplies of arms are the primary theme otherwise. The barrel features the very Spanish-style combination of deep-set stamped markings filled with gold. The most discernible one is the square with a prancing horse within. There are some faint markings behind the hammer on the lock that appear to be something like: “G.M.L. DGIA.”
The overall condition is near fine. Excellent action. The bore is smooth and in good shape. This example showcases a beautiful carved stock and deep engraved metal parts. There is a hairline crack that emanates from the rearmost ramrod tube on the fore stock. This is stable and hard to see unless you are looking for it.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 6-1/4 inches.
Caliber: .50 Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
