Product Description

FRENCH Antique FIN Marked .44 Cal. FLINTLOCK Pocket Pistol Deringer Hideout

European Deringer Type Flintlock Pistol!

Here we present an antique French Fin Flintlock Pocket Pistol, made circa the turn of the 19th Century in France. This large bore flintlock pistol was used primarily as a self-defense weapon. Their effective range was short, and they were frequently used as an adjunct to a sword or even a second or third pistol. Pistols in this era were usually smoothbore, although some rifled pistols were produced. They came in a variety of sizes with the smallest being less than 6 inches and the largest ranging to over 20 inches. The smaller ones, such as this one, would fit into a typical pocket or a hand warming muff and could easily be carried by man or woman.

This one features very attractively engraved hardware to include the trigger guard, pommel, side plate, and lock. Even the barrel has some floral engraving that appear to still have some color within. The stock is carved to meet and accent the hardware and there is a floral carving on the upper wrist.

The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The bore is in very good shape. “Fin” is engraved on the lock. The stock is solid with only a small, stable, crack above the side plate screw, which is a likely place for pistols of this type. This is a very handsome piece that is sure to please.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 3-3/8 inches.

Caliber: .44 Flintlock

Overall condition as seen in photos.
