1800s Martial Type Firearm w Spring-loaded Spike Bayonet!
Here we present an antique French Percussion Carbine with an Integral Spring-Loaded Bayonet, made circa the mid-19th Century in France. This is an unusual piece in that it was not a piece that was adopted by the French military, but its clear purpose is for fighting. It is likely, in our opinion, that this arm was made commercially for a sea-going company or colonial venture.
The smoothbore barrel measures .68 caliber with simple rifle-style sights. The bayonet is held in place by a spring-loaded plunger that has an extra safety catch.
The overall condition is good. The steel parts show some use and weathering. The action is excellent. The bore is patinated and smooth. The hammer has a short crack on the back. The stock is in good shape and solid. The bayonet comes out with force and locks up well.
