FLORAL ENGRAVED Antique CIVIL WAR Era .53 Cal. Percussion CAVALRY Carbine
Mid-1800s MILITARY STYLE Carbine
Here we present an antique Percussion Cavalry Style Carbine, made circa the mid-1800s. The American Civil War happened during a period of great firearms advancement throughout the world, but particularly in the United States. The primary transition was from muzzle-loaders to breech-loaders, from loose ball and powder to self-contained cartridges. Dozens of different small arms, namely cavalry carbines, were used in the conflict. The war saw obsolete technology fighting next to the cutting edge, and both sides needed it all. Imagine the logistical nightmare of supplying so many different types of ammunition! When the Civil War began, both sides were desperate for small arms. Arms purchasers and speculators scoured Europe and England for small arms available for purchase.
The overall condition is good. The action remains strong. The bore shows some false rifling at the front of the muzzle and is otherwise smooth and dusty throughout. The stock shows much use and remains solid. This carbine has been re-barreled in what appears to be some native fashion with an octagonal barrel with floral designs on the tang, over the breech, mid-barrel and over the muzzle.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 15-1/4 inches.
