Product Description
FINE 1910 mfg. COLT “ARMY SPECIAL” .38 Special Double Action C&R REVOLVER
FINE Revolver in .38 Special; Original Finish
Here we present a C&R Colt Army Special Double Action Revolver, made in 1910 by the Colt Manufacturing Company with a production run from 1908 through 1927 in Hartford, Connecticut, with a serial number range between 291,000 and 540,000. The Colt Army Special was a heavier framed improved version designed by Colt to replace the various over-complicated models of Colt New Army and Navy revolvers. As mentioned above, it was in production from 1908 to 1927 in hopes of securing a military contract. The United States Army instead adopted the Colt M1909 New Service revolver in .45 Long Colt and later the Colt M1911 Self-Loading pistol in the .45 ACP cartridge after extensive trials.
As mentioned above, the predecessor to this revolver was the New Army & Navy revolver, and in 1908 Colt introduced a sleek and modernized revolver they dubbed the Army Special, which in the powerful (for the time) and popular .38 Special quickly became the issue service revolver of many departments. The revolver was renamed “Colt’s Official Police” in 1927 in order to better market to law enforcement agencies. The available calibers offered were .22 Long Rifle, 32-20 WCF, .38 Special, .38/200, and .41 Long Colt.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish is preserved. The action is excellent. Shiny bright, rifled bore. Markings are sharp throughout. Both grips are fine with light handling wear. Numbers match.
