Product Description

FANCY Germanic JAEGER Rifle in .50 Caliber CARVED & ENGRAVED 19th Century

Antique Full Stock European Hunting Rifle

Here we present an antique carved and engraved German Jaeger Rifle, made circa 1850. This rifle features rich Bavarian styling with a full-length stock tipped in horn. The right side of the butt stock has a beautifully caved, sliding patchbox typical of German guns of this period. The left side of the butt stock has a wide, flat cheek piece surrounded by lovely scrollwork. Checkering was hand-cut into the wrist and the forestock. The trigger guard acts as a pistol grip. Double set triggers for precision shooting. The barrel is fully octagonal with a deeply rifled .50 caliber bore. Sling swivels are a nice touch for a rifle that was built for hunting in the forests and mountains of Germany. This one is fitted with a highly adjustable thumbscrew open rear sight. There is a provision for a tang-mounted peep. The front sight is absent and could be replaced.

The overall condition is near fine. The action is as strong as ever. The bore is bright with very nice rifling. All engravings and markings are clear and ornate! There is an illegible marking on the top of the barrel which was probably the maker’s mark. A first class example of a German Jaeger!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 28-1/2 inches.

Caliber: .50 percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
