Here we present a Weyersberg, Kirschbaum, & Company USN Officer’s Style Sword, made circa the World War I era in Solingen, Germany. Since 1883, Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co. (WKC), has been manufacturing military swords and cutlery in Solingen, Germany. Today, as the oldest and largest military sword manufacturer in Germany, this family-owned business is the leading supplier to military schools and services worldwide for ceremonial military swords, including the military academies in the United States.
Generally speaking, swords were not extremely practical for combat by the time the Great War came around; however, they were still prized for dress uniforms and status symbols. They were worn at formal ceremonies, weddings, parties, parades and funerals.
The overall condition is fine. This example has maintained a nice and bright blade adorned with detailed US etchings. Some wiggle is present in the hand guard. The scabbard is in fine shape. Legible markings.
