Period Copy of Henry Deringer’s Famous Pistol

Here we present an antique “Peanut Size” Period Copy of Henry Deringer’s Percussion Pocket Pistol, made circa the 1850s. It was not until the 1850s that the prototypical “Deringer” percussion pistol became extremely popular. Once it did become popular, the basic design was copied in dozens of different shops. Not only was it copied, but Deringer’s good name was stamped on guns made by others, some of them not up to the quality standards of Deringer himself. The inventor was apparently very worried about protecting his good name, so he pursued and sued any of the counterfeiters that he could find and warned the buying public to beware of his spurious imitators. This Peanut Sized Unmarked Derringer offered here is a classic example of a Henry Deringer copyist. The barrel measures 1-5/8 inches, and any of these with the barrel measuring 2 inches or under is the definition of a “Peanut” sized derringer pistol.

The overall condition is fine. Original finish is preserved. Nicely engraved lock, hammer, and barrel. Fully functioning action. The trigger has lost some tension. Good bore for its age with deep grooves. Very good stock with light grip checkering and minimal handling wear.
