Period Copy of Henry Deringer’s Famous Pistol
Here we present an antique Period Copy of Henry Deringer’s Percussion Pocket Pistol, made circa the 1850s. This example is marked “A.R. Mendenhall of Des Arc, Arkansas”. It was not until the 1850s that this prototypical “Deringer” percussion pistol became extremely popular. Once it did become popular, the basic design was copied in dozens of different shops. Not only was it copied, but Deringer’s good name was stamped on guns made by others, some of them not up to the quality standards of Deringer himself.
The overall condition is very good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Nice lightly engraved hammer, lock, barrel and guard. Markings are sharp. Solid wood, light handling evidence, and a stable repair on the forend.
