Engraved PAIR of SMITH ENGLISH Antique BOXLOCK Percussion BELT/MUFF Pistols
With FOLDING TRIGGERS & SCREW OFF BARRELS!
Here we present a pair of Smith antique British Boxlock Percussion Self Defense Pistols, made circa 1850 likely in Birmingham, England. These little self-defense pistols would have been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy city of London during the mid-1800s. These pistols are small, light and simple. The “Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the “Saturday Night Specials” of the 16th-18th century. Before the Deringer, they were “Gentleman’s” or “Muff Pistols”, typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff.
The overall condition of each pistol is good. Strong actions on both pistols! Barrels can be unscrewed for loading. The bores are smooth and remain in good shape. Grips are solid at the frames and contain the expected amount of wear. “SMITH” is engraved on the left frame and “LONDON” on the right. Here is a set of beautiful boxlock percussion pistols for any collection.
