ENGRAVED GOLD INLAID Antique RENKIN BROTHERS Side x Side Percussion SHOTGUN
Fine Twist Barrel Fowler c1850s

It is known that the Renkin Brothersexhibited arms at the London Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations in 1851. During this era, there were many English and Belgian gunmakers who were capitalizing on the eager markets in the United States.
“Fine Laminated Twist Barrels” is marked on the top rib. The barrels begin with octagonal flats with flutes and transition to round. Both locks display gold inlaid game scenes of dogs and game birds along with the maker’s mark, and two deer inlaid on the trigger guard. A gold pheasant is on the tang of the butt plate. Nicely engraved throughout. A fine piece!
The overall condition is very good. Some of the original Damascus pattern remains on the barrels with original gold highlighted game scenes and makers marks throughout. The actions are excellent. The bores are smooth and patinated. Very nice walnut grain. The stock shows use and remains solid throughout.
