ENGRAVED Antique WHEELER Boxlock FLINTLOCK .50 Caliber POCKET Pistol
Early-1800s Self Defense Pistol
Here we present an antique Wheeler of London Boxlock Flintlock Self Defense Pistol, made circa the early 1800s in Birmingham, England. Robert Wheeler had a shop in London beginning around 1767. The firm was renamed Robert Wheeler & Son in 1813 and remained active until 1830. Wheeler is known to have produced an array of pistols and long guns for government contracts as well as export.
This pistol is compact and has a folding trigger that stows up flush with the frame until the hammer is cocked. The engravings make it a handsome piece and it is marked both “LONDON” and “WHEELER”. Birmingham proofs. Octagonal barrel with a star shaped muzzle crown.
The overall condition is very good. The action is strong and tight. It will spark. Patinaed bore with deep grooves. Sharp grip checkering and firm against the frame. A truly beautiful little flintlock pistol that has survived the test of time.
