ENGRAVED Antique REMINGTON No. 1 Saw Handle Vest Pocket .22 RF DERINGER
BONE GRIPS; 1 of 17,000 Made During Production Run
Here we present an antique Remington No. 1 Saw Handle Deringer (also known as the Vest Pocket Pistol), made from 1865-1888. This is an example of the .22 rimfire cartridge Vest Pocket. Invented by William H. Elliot, only about 17,000 of these guns were made in total over the 23 years production run. This single shot pistol is very simple in mechanics. Place the hammer in the most rearward position and load a cartridge. The hammer also acts as the loading gate and breach block.
This neat little pistol with antique ivory grips would have been a very handy pistol to have stuck down in one’s vest pocket while paddle-wheeling down the Mississippi River when the poker game went awry!
The overall condition is very good. Some gold finish remains on the left and right sides of the frame. Strong action. Markings are legible. Both grips are in good shape with an average amount of wear. Lightly engraved. The bore is good for its age.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 3-1/4 inches.
Caliber: .22 Rimfire
Overall condition as seen in photos.
