ENGRAVED Antique H. W. MORTIMER & Co. Marked .60 Caliber FLINTLOCK Pistol
“GUNMAKERS TO HIS MAJESTY” Marked Barrel
Here we present an antique H. W. Mortimer & Co. Marked Flintlock Pistol made circa the late 1700s to early 1800s in London, England. Henry William Mortimer had a shop at 89 Fleet Street, London from 1780 until 1835 when the business name was changed to H.W. Mortimer and Sons from 1835 to 1855. H.W. Mortimer bore a Royal Warrant having supplied weapons to the Royal family and was well known for supplying weapons to The Royal Mail Coaches. He was probably the best known and one of the most revered gun makers of the period.
The quality of this piece is impeccable, from the checkered grip to the intricate engraving. The top of the barrel is marked “GUNMAKERS TO HIS MAJESTY”. To have this title was nothing short of amazing, knowing how good one must have been to be given that title.
The overall condition is very good. Excellent action. Good smooth bore, aged. The grip/stock is in good shape with sharp checkering and average wear. The markings are sharp.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
