ENGLISH Boxlock SIDE-HAMMER .50 Caliber PERCUSSION Self Defense BELT Pistol
BIRMINGHAM PROOFED Pistol Made Post-1813!
Here we present an antique English Percussion Pistol, made circa the mid-1800s in Birmingham, England. This pistol features a large .50 caliber “manstopping” bore that would have been worn on the belt or holstered as it was possibly carried into battle by a soldier purchased for himself who was wanting a backup weapon. This is a neat old pistol and one can easily imagine the sight of its gaping bore would certainly be a deterrent to would be scoundrels and would have made a stately weapon for self-defense in mid-19th Century Britain. It would have felt right at home in a gentleman’s coat pocket or inside a lady’s purse or muff.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. The hammer screw has been replaced. The bore is in good shape. The grips is in good shape with expected wear from use. Light engravings on the frame remain sharp. “AK” is faintly scratched in atop the barrel and on the grip escutcheon. A wonderful box lock pistol to add to the collection!
