Here we present a C&R Japanese Nagoya Type 38 Infantry Rifle, made circa 1936 at the Nagoya Arsenal. The Nagoya Arsenal was a collection of five major military facilities located in and around Nagoya, Japan. It produced various Japanese army and air war equipment during World War II including the Arisaka Type 38 rifle and carbine. Specific arsenal facilities were built in Nagoya, Atsuta, Chikusa, Takagi, and Toriimatsu. The Type 38 rifle and carbine were bolt-action service rifles used by the Empire of Japan predominantly during the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Second World War.
The Type 38 rifle was produced at five different Japanese arsenals with over 3 million manufactured over the production run between 1906 through 1944. The Tokyo Arsenal produced 2,029,000 between 1906 and 1932. The Kokura Arsenal produced 494,700 between 1933 and 1941. The Nagoya Arsenal produced 312,500 between 1932 and 1942. The Hoten/Mukden Arsenal produced 148,800 between 1937 and 1944. The Jinsen Arsenal produced 13,400 during the year of 1942.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. Bright bore, remains nicely rifled. Very good stock. The numbers on the bolt and receiver match. Legible markings. The mum is ground. Good bayonet.
