Product Description

“DRAGON DU ROY” French FLINTLOCK Dragoon Pistol Antique .68 Caliber Horse

Big Bore .68 Caliber Sidearm Late-18th Century, Early-19th

Here we present an antique French Flintlock Dragoon’s Pistol, made circa the late-18th Century. This large pistol would have been carried in a pommel holster by a horse soldier, in fact, a Dragon du Roy or Dragoon of the King! This title of “king” could have applied to any of France’s kings but also to Napoleon, who ended the First French Republic (1792-1804) by naming himself Emperor (1804-1815).

This pistol is large and has a .68 caliber bore. Brass furniture with “DRAGONS DV ROY” marked into the left side plate. There are some worn markings atop the barrel. The stock is robust with an abbreviated pommel, also capped in brass. The basket-weave style checkering up the grip is a nice touch. Horn-tipped ramrod. A very stately and practical weapon.

The overall condition is very good. The walnut stock has a minor repair at the muzzle. The bore is smooth and dark. The action remains strong. The frizzen spring is a replacement. This is a fabulous French horse pistol!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 9-3/8 inches.

Caliber: .68

Overall condition as seen in photos.
