Product Description
DOUBLE BARREL Antique OVER/UNDER Boxlock .45 Percussion SELF DEFENSE Pistol
Mid-19th Century CONCEAL/CARRY Pistol w/WALNUT GRIP
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Double Barrel, Over-Under Boxlock Percussion Belt Pistol, made circa the 1850s likely in Europe. This would have been primarily used as a self-defense gun. The over/under configuration is highlighted by two separate percussion chambers, one for each barrel, as compared to a rotating barrel.
This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy cities of Europe during the mid-1800s. This pistol is small, light and simple. The “Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the “Saturday Night Specials” of the 17th-19th century. Before the Deringer, they were “Gentleman’s” or “Muff Pistols”, typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff. In its day, this little two shot over/under percussion pistol would have been a very handy self-defense weapon to have around, having two shots to fire off instead of one!
The overall condition is good. Original bright gray patina. Strong action. Both bores are good for their ages and remain smooth. The grip on this example is solid with light handling wear. Visible numbers match.
