Product Description
COLT Single Action “BUNTLINE SCOUT” .22 RF C&R Revolver After NED BUNTLINE
8-ShotTarget Shooter and PLINKER
Here we present a C&R Colt Buntline Scout Single Action Revolver, made circa 1965 by the Colt Manufacturing Company. Ned Buntline was a New York Times columnist when Wyett Earp was the U.S. Marshall in Tombstone, Arizona. He wrote fictional stories about the exploits of Earp and traveled to Arizona to interview him. Buntline commissioned Colt to build two special Peacemakers with Buntline Special engraved on the barrel. He gave one to Earp the other he kept. There is no evidence that Earp actually carried the Buntline Special that was given to him.
There were two different models of this revolver, one being the “Scout” model, and the other was the “Peacemaker” model. The “scout” models differ from the “peacemaker” models in that the scouts have an alloy frame, the peacemakers are case hardened. This example has the 9-1/2 inch barrel. The “F” suffix model, as is this example, had 246,000 examples manufactured from 1957 to 1970.
The overall condition is very fine. Original finish is preserved. Excellent action. Bright, rifled bore. Markings are sharp throughout. Both grips are in fine shape.
