CIVIL WAR Era SCARCE Antique FRANK WESSON Small Frame 1st Type .32 Pistol
Younger Brother of Famed DANIEL B. WESSON of S&W
Here we present an antique Frank Wesson Model 1859 1st Type Small Frame .32 Caliber Rimfire Single Shot Tip-Up Pistol, made circa 1859 to 1862 in Worcester, Massachusetts. A very limited number of these are thought to have been made. Frank Wesson was the younger brother of Daniel B. Wesson, of Smith & Wesson, as well as Edwin Wesson, who was also a highly-esteemed gunsmith in the mid-to-late-1800s. The fame of his family’s name was not lost on Frank, but he was, in fact, a prolific firearms designer and maker in his own right.
This spur trigger pistol features a 3-3/4 inch barrel that begins octagonal and transitions to round at the mid-point. The top of the barrel flat reads “FRANK WESSON/PAT’D OCT 25 1859”.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is good, has some shimmer, and serviceable rifling. Both grips are solid with average handling. Gray patina. Markings are legible. Here is a scarce Frank Wesson Model 1859!
