CIVIL WAR Era Antique U.S. Model 1850 Staff and Field OFFICER’S SHORT Sword
With ETCHED BLADE, BRASS HILT, & IRON SCABBARD
Here we present an antique U.S. Model 1850 Staff and Field Officer’s Short Sword, likely manufactured in Solingen, Germany circa the late 1850s to early 1860s. The Model 1850 was a fairly heavy sword that would have been carried primarily by the officers. These swords were used during the Mexican-American War, the American Civil War, and the Indian Wars. Being that they were issued during the years prior to the American Civil War, both sides retained these in service. This Pattern 1850 Staff and Field Officer’s Clauberg saber and scabbard represents a specimen that Confederate and Union Officers likely used during the American Civil War.
The overall condition is good. The blade has a dark gray patina and remains nicely etched. Solid hilt and tight brass wire. The scabbard is in good shape.
Overall Length is 21 inches.
Blade Length is 16-1/4 inches.
