Product Description
CIVIL WAR Era Antique U.S. Model 1840 Union Army LIGHT ARTILLERY Saber
Sword Carried by ARTILLERY TROOPS During the Civil War
Here we present an antique U.S. Model of 1840 Light Artillery Saber, made circa the 1850s, likely in Chicopee, Massachusetts by the Ames Manufacturing Company. Though the markings are worn to the point that the manufacturer is unreadable, Ames was the foremost maker of the Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber. The Model 1840 features a beautifully curved blade with a single brass knucklebow instead of a basket hilt.
The overall condition is fair. The blade has a shallow bend about 15-1/2 inches from the hilt. Sharpened edge. Dark patina throughout. There is some movement of the hilt around the tang. Shows much use and probable weathering.
Overall length: 36-3/4 inches.
Blade length: 31-3/4 inches.
