Product Description
CIVIL WAR Era Antique PHILADELPHIA Marked Staff and Field OFFICER’S Sword
UNION Civil War Sword with ETCHED BLADE
Here we present an antique Philadelphia Marked Staff and Field Officer’s Sword, manufactured in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania circa the late 1850s to early 1860s. The Staff and Field Officer’s sword was a fairly heavy sword that would have been carried primarily by the officers. These swords were used during the Mexican-American War, the American Civil War, and the Indian Wars. Being that they were issued during the years prior to the American Civil War, both sides retained these in service. This Staff and Field Officer’s saber and scabbard represents a specimen that Confederate and Union Officers likely used during the American Civil War.
The overall condition is good. The blade is nicely etched, but some of the designs show sign of wear and have been touched up by hand. A bit of wiggle is present in the hand guard. Legible markings. Around the grip, the creative use of a modern guitar string has been used replaced the original brass twisted wire. Good scabbard.
Overall Length is 38 inches.
Blade Length is 32-1/4 inches.
