“70” & “5” Marked Union Saber with IRON SCABBARD
Here we present an antique Connecticut Marked U.S. Ames Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber, made circa the Civil War era. The Model 1840 features a beautifully curved blade with a single brass knucklebow instead of a basket hilt. The grip is wrapped in leather and braided wire. The overall length is 37 inches with the blade measuring 31-3/4 inches. This saber would have been used in the American Civil War by Union and possibly Confederate Artillery Troops.
The overall condition is good. Bright blade. Solid hilt. The number “70” is marked on the hand guard. Good scabbard.
