Product Description
CIVIL WAR Era Antique ALLEN & WHEELOCK .42 Cal. Rimfire DROP BREECH Rifle
Serial Number “916” Falling Block Single Shot Rifle
Here we present an antique Allen & Wheelock Drop Breech Falling Block Rifle in .42 Caliber Rimfire, made circa the early to mid-1860s in Worcester, Massachusetts, with a production run between 1860 to 1871. Fewer than 2,000 of these rifles are thought to have been made in any variant. Though not standard issue, this rifle saw service in the American civil War through private purchases by soldiers. It features a half-octagonal, half-round barrel with a very neat adjustable rear sight. The rear sight tips and its arm points to various ranges which also have notches which allow the arm to rest in under spring tension. This rifle is equipped with the optional sling loops ahead of the forearm and under the buttstock. The lowering action of the breech block automatically ejected the spent cartridge.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish. The action is excellent. Bright bore with nice rifling. The stock is in fine shape and remains solid. Sharp markings.
