American Civil War Cavalry Blade Dated 1863 with SCABBARD!
Here we present an antique U.S. Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, made by Emerson & Silver for the American Civil War in Trenton, New Jersey in 1863. Emerson & Silver were sword makers between 1860 and 1865 with contracts totaling 27,060 Model 1860 sabers to be issued to Federal Horsemen under the U.S. Government Ordnance Department contract of February 1862. The company made a total of nearly 50,000 swords throughout the entire war. When the fighting stopped in 1865, the company folded.
The overall length is 40-1/2 inches with the blade measuring 34-12 inches.
The overall condition is good. Many dings and dents in the blade. The hand guard has a slight wiggle. The twisted wire is tight around the leather grip. The ricasso is dated “1863”.
