Product Description
Circa 1720s DUTCH Pistol by NICOLAS JAMPSIN BOSSET A LIEGE .62 Cal Antique
18th Century Military Pistol from the Netherlands!
Here we present an antique Dutch Military Pistol by Nicolas Jampsin Bosset, a gunmaker in Liege, circa the early-18th Century. This pistol was built before about 100 years prior to Belgium becoming its own nation-state, when Liege was part of the Netherlands, one of the most prosperous nations in the world due to their prowess on the seas and in trade all over the globe. Bosset was the son in law of another famous gunmaker in Liege, Gilles Massin (d.1740). Both were known to have made military arms.
This pistol features a beautiful gold washed pattern on the top of the barrel. The barrel transitions from octagonal to round and is .62 caliber smoothbored. It was a flintlock when it was first created but was updated to the percussion firing system circa the 1820s-40, a testament to how good this pistol was that it would be updated to stay in service about 100 years later!
The lock is marked “N.J. Bosset/A Liege”.
The overall description is very good. The action is strong and crisp. The bore is dark and dusty with age. A fabulous piece of history from the Dutch Republic during their Golden Age!
