Circa 1700s Antique SPANISH Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS Naval Pirate Exploration
Colonial Period Deck Clearing Gun from España
Here we present a Spanish Flintlock Blunderbuss, made circa the 18th Century. This piece has a muzzle with a diameter of 2 inches. The breech end of the barrel is deeply stamped with a Spanish maker’s mark that appears to read “MAS/MAJ”. This gun has been added to as needed. The remnants of an old brass trigger guard can be seen along with one of a different pattern. The butt plate is cracked. The barrel band appears a bit ad hoc. Iron rammer. One doesn’t have to use much imagination to see this in the hands of a pirate.
The overall condition is rough. Gray patina throughout. The action will hold half- and full-cock but the trigger does not drop the cock. The lock is a bit loose as there is some loss of material around the lock inletting. The stock in front of the lock has a long crack. It has clearly been there and done that. This would be a fantastic piece on display.
