Product Description

CASED British CHARLES MALEHAM 16 Gauge Double Barrel SxS HAMMER Shotgun

BEAUTIFULLY ENGRAVED Back Action with LEATHER CASE!

Here we present a Charles Maleham Side by Side Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun in 16 Gauge, made circa the 1880s in Birmingham, England. Maleham was a maker of fine quality double barrel shotguns for the elite in England. This is an English fowling piece that is elegant along with its simplicity and practicality. This double barrel hammer gun would most likely have been primarily used for upland fowl.

This fine double features a leather-covered case with red cloth lining. The label numbers to the gun and shows a good load for the gun along with recommended black powder brands and variants. The maker’s label, which is front and center of the interior of the case has the address of the retail shop in London as “20, Regent Street, Waterloo Place, London, S.W.” The back action locks are marked “CHAS H. MALEHAM” and feature beautiful English scrollwork. The hammers, frame, trigger guard, butt plate, and even screws are also engraved. The top of the Damascus twist barrel is likewise marked with the maker’s address and the serial number. Rather low serial numbers match throughout. The underside of the barrel bears Birmingham proofs for black powder. The barrel rib has a bead at the muzzle and one midway. Sling swivels round out a very handsome and functional shotgun.

The overall condition is very good. Excellent actions. The bores are reflective and remain in good shape with just a little bit of scattered pitting throughout. Solid, smooth stock. Engravings on the frame, trigger guard, and lock are finely detailed and sharp. Numbers match. The beautiful leather-covered case is in good-very good shape and includes load data from the maker! This is a very handsome set from late-19th Century England!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
