Product Description

c1930s Gorgeous Carved GERMAN SCHUETZEN 8.15x46R Single Shot TARGET Rifle C&R

20th Century Long Range Competition Rifle

Here we present a C&R German Schuetzen Target Rifle, made circa the 1930s in Germany. A Schuetzen is a type of rifle used in European long-range competition. Its German root is from the word Schütze which can be translated as “shooter.” The earliest usage was to denote units of marksmen or sharpshooters back in the days of muzzleloading firearms. Some sources claim that it was once used to describe archers, or more specifically, crossbowmen. These rifles are typically heavy and can weigh upwards of 15 pounds. All shooting with these rifles is done standing using a palm rest and butt stock prongs to help the shooter balance the rifle so the weight aids in stability.

When Schuetzen became a competitive sport in Germany, many gun makers built these rifles to specifically fit an individual shooter. This means if you come across one in the wild, there is a good chance that it will not fit you with regard to grip, length of pull, cheek rest configuration or even how the butt plate fits your shoulder. This particular rifle was most likely fitted to an individual named “G. Satke”, as the nameplate on the rifle indicates.

This rifle features a distinctive beautifully carved and checkered custom fit butt stock. The trigger guard is large and is designed to be used as a pistol grip. Double set trigger that barely needs a thought to press, it is so light. The barrel is 31-7/8 inches long and octagonal. The front sight is present, though the rear peep sight assembly is absent.

The overall condition is fine. Great blue and case color finish. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The stock is solid and beautifully carved.

This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.
