c1918 mfr. WINCHESTER Model 1894 .30-30 WCF Lever Action CARBINE C&R 25
WORLD WAR I Era Rifle in .30-30 WCF!
Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Carbine in .30-30, made in 1918 in New Haven, Connecticut. The credit for the design of such a prolific firearm again lies with John Moses Browning, who lent his extensive design talents to a large number of weapon types throughout his career. The Model 1894 was the first Winchester rifle made for use with the new technology of smokeless powder and was developed as a hunting rifle. Over 7.5 million were produced from 1894 until 2006. While various cartridges were supported throughout the run of the gun, the .30-30 Winchester became its staple. In practical use, the Model 1894 became a favorite for general shooters and hunters alike. To this day, it remains a deer hunting favorite, and, in all likelihood, more deer have been taken with the 1894 than any other.
This one has what appears to be a rack number stamped into the butt stock, just below the bottom tang. It is possible that this was one of many carbines in some department or maybe even a really organized, heavily armed ranch.
The overall condition is nearing fine. Original blue preserved on the barrel and magazine tube. The receiver has been polished. Strong action. Bright bore with sharp rifling. The stock is solid. There is a blond streak on the right side of the butt stock that is not a crack but it does have a short, couple inch split (not a crack) that runs within it. This seems just to be characteristic of the grain of the wood and it is immobile.
