Product Description

c18th Century ITALIAN “LAZARO” FLINTLOCK Pistol .48 Caliber Ornate

Engraved, Carved, Gold Washed, Signed

Here we present an antique Flintlock Pistol Maker Marked “LAZARO C.” for Lazaro Cominazzo, made circa the 18th Century. The Cominazzos were an Italian family from Brescia known throughout Europe for their wonderful barrel-making, beginning circa the 16th Century and continuing through the 18th Century. They became so famous, in fact, that they attracted their fair share of imitators. Their typical design was much as this one with elaborate transitions and especially exterior fluting. Barrels were typically bored around .50 caliber or smaller, which was relatively small for this period when a fighting pistol could be as large as .75 caliber. The guns that were equipped with these barrels tend to be one of a kind creations that are rather ornate. In addition to the fancy barrel, this one features engraved and gold-washed brass hardware throughout with stock carvings and embellishments to help accent the hardware. This one has a full-length stock tipped in horn. The trigger guard has a sleek sweeping profile with a squared back. The grip is rather narrow from side to side and bulbous front to back. The top of the barrel is marked “LAZARO C.” on the top of the barrel, “B” on the barrel tang, and “7” on the rear portion of the trigger guard tang.

This medium bored pistol would have been intended for use as a self-defense firearm and carried in a belt or holster. Its barrel is a long 9-1/2 inches in length.

The overall condition is near fine. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and in great shape with reflective surfaces. The ramrod is absent. This is an extremely desirable pistol

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 9-1/2 inches.

Caliber: .48

Overall condition as seen in photos.
