Here we present an antique Winchester Takedown Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle in .32-40, made in 1896 in New Haven, Connecticut. One of John Moses Browning’s enduring designs, the Model 1894 is an American icon, responsible for countless deer and other game animals, it was also used by law enforcement, cowboys, and renegades in its day.
This one has the takedown feature, with the magazine tube unthreading and the barrel assembly twisting off the receiver. Crescent butt plate. Plugged rear sight dovetail. This one has a “Climbin’ Lyman” rear peep sight mounted on the receiver. There are two small notches on the left rear of the forearm. The barrel has been shortened to 20”.
The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Excellent, crisp action. The bore is a bit frosted with worn rifling. This example sports a solid stock with a large pressure dent on the right side.
