c1888 mfr Antique WINCHESTER 1885 HIGH WALL .45-70 GOVT Rifle Falling Block
“Best Single Shot Rifle Ever Produced”-Ned Roberts
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Rifle chambered in .45-70, made circa 1888 per Madis in New Haven, Connecticut. The Winchester Model 1885 has a falling-block action, and two models were produced, the Low Wall and the High Wall. Ironically, this was Winchester’s first single shot rifle, the company having been founded on its winning lever action repeater design. John Moses Browning, the famed gun designer who forever changed the firearms landscape, began his career with this rifle in the 19th Century before dominating the world scene in the 20th Century.
This specimen is chambered for the high powered .45-70 cartridge. It features a 30-inch octagon barrel and a tang-mounted peep sight. It also comes with a Monte Carlo cheek pad that can be attached if wanted.
The overall condition is very good. Nicely refinished. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with serviceable rifling. The stock is smooth and solid.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
