Inspected by ANDREW D. KING
Here we present an antique U.S. Model of 1840 Light Artillery Saber, made circa 1863 in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The Model 1840 features a beautifully curved blade with a single brass knucklebow instead of a basket hilt. The grip is wrapped in leather and braided wire. Ames address on the left side of the ricasso.
The right side of the ricasso is marked “U.S./A.D.K./1863”. The inspector’s initials belong to Sub-Ordnance Inspector A.D. King. This saber would have been used in the American Civil War by Union Artillery Troops.
The overall condition is very good. Straight blade with gray patina. The hilt is solid with complete leather and braided wire wrap. The scabbard is in good condition and has only one ding on the lower third on one side. A nice Civil War saber!
