c1860 RICHARD DIEMAR of TAUNTON, MASS Half-Stock Rifle .44 Caliber Antique
Engraved, German Silver, Octagon/Round Transitional Barrel
Here we present an antique Richard Diemar Half Stock Percussion Rifle, made circa the mid-19th Century. Diemar was a gunmaker working out of Taunton, Massachusetts and was working between the years of 1856 and 1878.
This rifle features a substantial part octagon/part round barrel in .44 caliber. The front sight is a globe type and the rear sight is mounted on the barrel. There is a peep sight base behind the barrel tang. Double set trigger. Fancy wood stock. Engraved steel lock with engraved German silver hardware throughout such as butt plate, trigger guard, fore-end cap. A very handsome rifle.
The overall condition is very good. Strong action. Bright bore with sharp rifling. The stock has a nice glossy finish over a very rich color and grain. It does have a crack around the rear sight base (behind the barrel tang) with nearly imperceptible movement when pressure is applied. Missing rear sight from the tang. Sharp markings and engravings. The ramrod is absent.
