Product Description

c1850s CRISP London Proof .50 CALIBER Antique SIDE x SIDE Pistol Percussion

Elegant Double Barrel Handgun from England!

Here we present an Elegant British Antique Side by Side Pistol, made circa 1850 in London. This boxlock pistol has its actions contained within the frame and features double triggers, the front for the right barrel and the rear one for the left. The barrels are just shy of 4 inches and have smooth .50 caliber bores. There is a rib between them with a small shotgun type bead on the front and a minimalist notch in the back. This would have been a close quarters weapon and point & shoot would have been the order of the day. The ramrod is captive, a simple but brilliant feature for any pistol of this period as you can imagine, as a pistol tipped down was likely to lose its rammer otherwise. Another nice feature is the percussion cap trap in the pommel of the grip. Speaking of the grip, it is full-sized and curvaceous, offering an extremely low bore axis in line with the top knuckle. The hammer, frame, trigger guard, and pommel are all beautifully scroll engraved and the muzzles have a little flourish as well. The grip is one piece of solid wood that is completely checkered round with a small silver rectangle set in the top-rear. The barrels are each proofed London style on the underside and it is in this area that the remaining case colors are most visible.

The overall condition is fine. The actions are strong and crisp. The bores are smooth and in very good condition. Checkering on the grip is sharp and the grip remains seated firmly seated at the frame. The fine floral engravings are well-defined. This is a handsome pistol that would have made a nearly unbeatable sidearm in 19th Century London. You will certainly feel the quality when you hold it in your hand.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 3-7/8 inches.

Caliber: .50 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
