c1850s Antique Militia Fusil N. ASHMORE Lock Smoothbore Musket .58 Caliber
Kentucky Style Musket with Octagonal Barrel “HB Co”
Here we present an antique Kentucky Style Militia Musket or Fusil with an Ashmore lock, made circa the 1850s. The lock is associated with this time period and Kentucky rifles. The barrel is nearly 40-inches in length, smooth bored in .58 caliber, and octagonal. The barrel has a Liege proof mark and was likely imported to be used for this purpose. The stock is full-length and has a sloping comb. This is the basic pattern of militia muskets in the US in the first half of the 19th Century and many states and various localities would often contract with a maker to produce them firearms of a certain specification.
The overall condition is good. Strong action. Good bore. A large repair can be seen on the left side of the forearm and buttstock toe. (Both are stable) “N. ASHMORE” is marked on the lock. “HB Co.” is stamped on the left buttstock. There is a worn Liege proof mark atop the barrel.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 39-1/2 inches.
Caliber: .58 Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
