c1820s BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS Antique Mid-1800s LANE & READ MUSKET FOWLER
Flintlock to Percussion Conversion
Here we present an antique Lane & Read Musket, made circa the early to mid-19th Century in Boston, Massachusetts. Lane & Read were gunmakers working out of Boston between 1826 through at least 1836, and possibly later. They were known for making muskets for Massachusetts to equip the state militia as well as sporting and hunting arms for the commercial market. This piece is in 12 gauge, made primarily as a fowling piece or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression.
The overall condition is good. Even patina throughout. Old conversion from flintlock. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock shows use and remains solid with some minor and stable weather related splits along the grain especially on the right side. It features a horn nose cap and a wooden rib under the barrel.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 32-1/2 inches.
Caliber: approximately 12 Gauge
Overall condition as seen in photos.
